I purchased this to make a mirror image of my hard drive in case of failure to include the operating system and other programs. Two days after I backed up my hard drive it failed. I installed a new hard drive and using the The Seagate supplied rescue disk I had my computer back up and running exactly as it was before in two hours.

I thought this would be a simple plug and play but the 1/2 page instructions did not work out as the limited details described.
It'then you find out Seagate technical back-up is virtually non-existant.
However it does seems to be working OK.
After the purchase I found a major limitation in it's use.
It will only function for 100% back up should your hard drive fail if you instal an identical hard drive.
Surely most wouuld upgrade their hard drive should it fail.
I consider that to be a serious handicap an so I wouldnt buy this Seagate model again.

I am decent but far from a guru. Most of the reviews that
panned it indicated they wanted the unit to do more or be
flexible. I didn't, just wanted to backup 50-75 GB on 3
different computers effortlessly. It seamlessly backed up
the 3 computers, 2 desktops with XP and my laptop with Win
7 ultimate, 64 bit. The longest time was about 10 hours,
shortest around 7 hours which was no problem since different
locations on desktops and laptop travels with me (just did
laptop overnight). Since then, I have "safely disconnected"
it and moved it around to all 3 units. The Replica immediately
identified the puter and went to work backing up what had
been generated since. There is a recommedation to give it
some time without activity when reconnected. I did.
All the computers have to have a different tag. Not anxious
to find out if restore will work as well, but actually fairly
confident it will.
